United BioPharma Starts Taiwan-China Trial of Herpes Treatment

United BioPharma, a Taiwan-China company, will start a clinical trial of its novel long-acting treatment for genital herpes caused by simplex viruses 1 and 2 (HSV 1 and HSV2). The company will conduct the trial together with the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre and Taiwan's Cheng Kung University's Department of Microbiology and Immunology. UB-621, administered via subcutaneous injection, targets surface glycoprotein gD, which has been shown to inhibit viral entry into cells. The trial will serve as a basis for a China-US Phase II trial of the candidate. More details....
