China Resources Pharma OK'd to Raise $2 Billion in Hong Kong IPO

China Resources Pharma, China's second largest drugmaker, has been approved to stage its IPO on the Hong Kong Exchange, according to reliable, though not official sources. The offering will raise as much as $2 billion, up from earlier estimates of $1 billion to $1.5 billion. Because Hong Kong requires IPO companies to list at least 25% of their shares, the offering terms imply a valuation of $8 billion for CR Pharma. CR Pharma, a unit of state-owned conglomerate China Holdings, already has two subsidiaries that are listed on China exchanges. More details....

China-Owned iHealth Pays $106 Million for eDevice of France

iHealth, a US subsidiary of Tianjin's Andon Group, paid $106 million to acquire eDevice of Bordeaux, France. Both companies offer mobile health monitoring devices. eDevice uses its proprietary technology to connect patients with large medtech companies and healthcare organizations. iHealth, headquartered in Mountain View, California, offers basic healthcare monitoring devices and an iOS smartphone app to keep patients connected. Two years ago, iHealth raised $25 million from Xiaomi Ventures, a China electronics company. More details....

Shanghai Mab-Venture Raises $35 Million in Funding Led by Prosperico Venture

Shanghai Mab-Venture Biopharma, a three-year old CRO/CMO, raised $35 million in a Series A round led by Prosperico Venture. The company focuses on biologics, including biosimilars, bio-betters and novel biologic drugs. It partners with other companies, both domestic and international, to provide development and manufacturing services, and it is developing it own portfolio of drugs. The company expects to file INDs in the next two to three years. Mab-Venture will use the funds to expand its innovative antibody drug development platforms and production capacity. More details....

China Developers to Build $1.5 Billion Life Science Park in South San Francisco

A China real estate developer and several China investment funds will spend $1.5 billion to develop a major biopharma site in South San Francisco, a project that will focus on fostering China-US cooperation in life sciences. The Oyster Point site was acquired by Greenland Holdings, a state-backed developer, plus Agile Group, Ping An Trust and Poly Sino Capital. When fully developed, the site could support over 2.2 million feet of office space, which is expected to be devoted entirely to life science companies. More details....

Hot China IPO Market Creates New Life Science Billionaire

Following the recent IPO of medical device maker Jafron Biomedical, China has a new billionaire, Fan Dong, the company's Chairman, CEO and owner of a 48% stake in the company. Jafron made its debut on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange 11 trading days ago, raising $69 million. The IPO price was 10.8 yuan. Since then, the price has more than tripled, rising to 36.7 yuan. Dong's holdings, nearly half the company, are worth $1.1 billion. Jafron makes disposable cartridges that purify the blood and are used mainly as an adjunct to hemodialysis. The company is headquartered in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. More details....
