Samsung BioLogics Plans $2.7 Billion IPO in South Korea

On Thursday of this week, Samsung BioLogics is expected to file for an IPO on South Korea's main board that will raise between $1.8 and $2.7 billion, valuing the company at $9 billion. Samsung BioLogics, the biopharma subsidiary of electronics conglomerate Samsung, aims to become the world's largest biologic drug CMO. It is also developing its own biosimilar drugs. According to IMS, the global market for biologic drugs will be over $390 billion by 2020 -- representing nearly one out of every three dollars spent for drugs -- which explains why so many pharmas are investing in biologic/biosimilar infrastructure. Shangdong Luoxin Pays $120 Million for China Rights to Lung Cancer Drug

Shangdong Luoxin Pharma in-licensed exclusive China rights to a lung cancer drug candidate from South Korea's Yuhan Corp. in a deal potentially worth $120 million in milestones. The drug, YH25448, targets EGFR-mutation positive non-small cell lung cancer in patients resistant to existing therapies. The two pharmas will develop the drug simultaneously in Asia: Luoxin in greater China; Yuhan in Korea and Taiwan. Yuhan received $6 million upfront and is also eligible for double-digit royalties on revenues from Luoxin. More details....

Fosun Pharma to Pay $1.3 Billion for India's Gland Pharma in Historic Deal

Shanghai Fosun Pharma won the bidding war for India’s Gland Pharma, paying $1.3 billion for a 86% stake. Gland makes generic injectible drugs. Most of Gland's revenues come from the US, although it also sells in India and many other countries. The deal has not yet been officially announced, so the exact price is not known. Although China and India would seem to have common interests, China-India cross-border pharma collaborations and/or M&A are almost non-existent, rendering the transaction a ground-breaker for more than just its $1.4 billion price tag. CR Sanjiu Pharma Acquires Shenghuo Pharma for $280 Million

China Resources Sanjiu Pharma will pay $280 million to acquire Kunming Shenghuo Pharmaceutical Group, a TCM company. Shenghuo has three subsidiaries that interest Sanjiu: Shenghuo Pharma, Shenghuo Cosmetics and Shenghuo Import & Export. Shenghuo's hotel business is not included in the deal. Sanjiu is a listed subsidiary of state-owned company China Resources Pharma, which is expected to stage a $1 billion IPO in Hong Kong soon. More details....

Luye Pharma to Acquire Swiss Patch Drug Assets for $269 Million

Luye Pharma will pay $269 million to acquire the transdermal patch and implant business of Swiss pharma Acino, a specialist in novel drug delivery systems. The agreement includes Acino's transdermal manufacturing operations, distribution, and R&D. Acino makes its own products and also operates a transdermanl patch drug CRO/CMO for outside customers. Luye's purchase is the latest example of China pharma's desire to move past collaborations with western pharmas and actually own assets in the EU and US. More details....
