WuXi AppTec, a large China CRDMO, announced flat earnings for the first six months of 2024 despite, as the company said, “external challenges.” The external challenges are the BIOSECURE Act currently being considered by the US Congress, which aims to stop US biopharma companies from using WuXi as a drug development partner. During the first half of the year, WuXi’s revenues dropped by only 1.2% from the year earlier. Its US customers provided $1.5 billion (62%) of the company’s income, a small decline. More details....

Aurisco Pharmaceutical has completed the expansion of its cGMP peptide manufacturing site in Yangzhou that will offer multi-metric ton capacity to produce the company’s generic GLP-1 peptides. The facility, which expects to start operations in mid-2024, will initially pursue commercial scale validation of recombinant Semaglutide. The site also offers CRDMO services for synthetic and recombinant peptides and oligonucleotides. China's Jiuzhou Pharma will invest $42 million to expand its CDMO business by building a facility in Japan. Zhejiang Jiuzhou Pharma s a CDMO that evolved from a generic API company. The company’s CDMO subsidiary, Raybow Life Sciences, is headquartered in Singapore with facilities in China, the US and EU. It offers small molecule R&D and green chemical manufacturing. The parent company, Jiuzhou Pharma claims to be the top API global manufacturer and supplier of Carbamazepine, a treatment for seizures. Boston’s PackGene Biotech partnered with Kudo Biotechnology, headquartered in Singapore, to provide end-to-end customized messenger RNA manufacturing services for drug and vaccine development. PackGene will offer process development and manufacturing services for plasmid DNA and cell banking, while Kudo Bio will provide process development, analytical development and manufacturing of mRNA and LNP, as well as fill and finish. PackGene has a GMP plasmid production site in Guangzhou, and Kudo’s Shanghai operations include clinical GMP manufacturing facility and MSAT laboratories.
