Beijing’s Brii Bio partnered with Sinopharm Holding to distribute Brii’s COVID neutralizing mAb therapy in China. The therapy was developed by combining non-competing SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal neutralizing antibodies derived from convalesced COVID-19 patients. In late 2021, it was approved in China for adults and pediatric patients with mild COVID-19 at high risk for progression to severe disease. Brii is a China-US company that develops therapies for infectious diseases such as hepatitis B virus (HBV), HIV, resistant gram-negative infections, and other conditions including CNS diseases. Shanghai Fosun Pharma reported it sold over 20 million doses (worth $157 million) of its COVID-19 vaccine during 2021 in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. Comirnaty®, an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, was developed by Fosun and Germany’s BioNTech. It is not approved for Mainland China use. Fosun, which completed China trials of the vaccine some time ago, said it is talking with China health regulators and expects approval by July at the latest. Shanghai Junshi Bio has dosed the first patient in an international Phase III trial of VV116 to treat moderate to severe COVID-19. VV116 is a novel oral nucleoside analog anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug designed to inhibit replication of SARS-CoV-2. The candidate was developed by a number of China Institutes, an Uzbekistan institute, Suzhou Vigonvita Life Sciences and Junshi. In preclinical studies, the drug showed antiviral activity against the original SARS-CoV-2 strain and all variants to date. It was approved for use in Uzbekistan last year. More details....
