Tsinghua University Holdings (TUS) of Beijing will invest $276 million to build a new biohub in the UK's Cambridge Science Park. The biohub will be a joint venture between TUS and Trinity College, Cambridge, the owner of the park. The money will build five new buildings, comprising 350,000 square feet. This includes a state-of-the-art biohub, which will provide labs and offices for early stage companies working on a wide range of healthcare technologies, including non-invasive diagnostics, new drugs, novel surgical techniques and new home-monitoring technologies. Jing Medicine Technology (Shanghai) will collaborate with ShanghaiTech University in a $100 million partnership to discover and develop novel small molecule cancer drugs. Jing Medicine will own global development and commercialization rights to the candidates, while ShanghaiTech University will receive upfront and milestone payments plus royalties. Initially, the partnership will focus on novel IP-protected compounds from a Ligand-directed Protein Degradation Platform, developed by Professor Biao Jiang. More details....

Ping An Healthcare and Technology, better known as Ping An Good Doctor, has successfully filed for a Hong Kong IPO. The much anticipated offering is expected to raise $1 billion, though the initial 520 page prospectus does not predict a value for the transaction. However, the IPO prospectus does reveal that Ping An Good Doctor booked $130 million in revenue during the first nine months of 2017, a 240% increase from a year earlier with a loss of nearly $80 million. Tmunity Therapeutics, a Philadelphia biopharma developing next-gen immuno-oncology drugs, closed a $100 million Series A round that included Ping An as its first-named investor. Using technology developed at the University of Pennsylvania, Tmunity is developing a broad-based portfolio of T cell therapies for oncology, infectious diseases and autoimmune diseases. Tmunity’s portfolio produces engineered T cells that activate or suppress immunity. Its approaches include T cell receptors, regulatory T cells, Crispr-Cas9 gene editing, allogeneic T cells and bionic T cells, as well as CAR-T programs. More details....

BeiGene, a Beijing innovative cancer biotech, raised a spectacular $750 million in a secondary offering of its shares. The price of the shares ended the session 13% higher after the funding was announced, closing the day at $115.56. BeiGene now has a market capitalization of $4.8 billion -- before the new shares are issued. In 2016, BeiGene staged a $158 million IPO on the Nasdaq exchange, pricing at $24 per share. To date, the company has raised almost $1 billion, including the IPO, a $200 million secondary offering, and Celgene's $236 million payment plus $150 investment in BeiGene shares for ex-China rights to BeiGene's PD-1 candidate.
