BioSense Inks $68 Million Deal for Neovacs’ Autoimmune Disease Vaccine in China

New Jersey/Suzhou-based BioSense Global has signed an option agreement with Neovacs of France for Neovacs' Phase II-stage IFNα Kinoid therapeutic vaccine candidate, a treatment for lupus and dermatomyositis. Neovacs could receive up to $68 million in upfront and milestone payments, plus sales royalties. Neovacs retains rights for other regions, except for a previously announced South Korea partnership. BioSense also receives first right of refusal in Greater China for any further IFNα Kinoid indications, including type 1 diabetes. Additional terms were not disclosed. More details....

Sanpower and CITIC to Raise $2.9 Billion for Sanpower's Healthcare M&A

Sanpower Group has enlisted China's CITIC Bank, a state-owned investor, to raise $2.9 billion for a healthcare M&A fund, which will fund Sanpower's healthcare acquisitions. Already, Sanpower has committed $1.6 billion -- more than half the total -- to two big-dollar purchases: $820 million for prostate cancer immunotherapy company Dandreon and $781 million to purchase 65% of China Cord Blood. Sanpower already owns several China hospitals, and in 2014, it paid $70 million to acquire Natali, an Israeli home healthcare company. More details....

Sanpower Group, a China conglomerate, paid $820 million for global rights to Provenge, an immunotherapy for prostate cancer, from Valeant Pharma; China radiology company Concord Medical formed a $150 million healthcare investment fund with Zhongrong International Trust; Shanghai Fosun Pharma announced a JV with Santa Monica's Kite Pharma to develop Kite's CAR-T immuno-oncology drug in China; Beijing's Cui Yutao Health Management Center raised $20 million in a C round for its pediatric care mobile app; Sequoia Capital China invested in Hong Kong Asia Medical Center, a China cardiology cancer hospital chain; AbbVie, Genomics Medicine Ireland, and WuXi NextCODE formed a genomic alliance to sequence 45,000 Irish genomes; Beijing's Bioyong Technology will bring Biodesix's VeriStrat® proteomic IVD to China; Suzhou Alphamab's anti-PD-L1 antibody was approved to begin China clinical trials; Chi-Med began treating cancer patients in a China Phase I trial of a novel Syk inhibitor; and Merck KGaA will offer an expanded set of biologic CRO/CMO services in Shanghai and Boston. Fosun Forms $95 Million China CAR-T JV with Kite Pharma

Shanghai Fosun Pharma formed a JV with Santa Monica's Kite Pharma to develop Kite's CAR-T immuno-oncology drug in China. Axicabtagene ciloleucel (KTE-C19), has completed clinical development in the US and Europe to treat B-cell lymphomas. Fosun will pay $40 million to Kite upfront and as much as $35 million in milestones. It will also provide $20 million for China development costs. The JV will also have an option for additional Kite products, including two T cell receptor candidates. More details....

iCarbonX Forms Health Alliance with Seven Companies; Invests $400 Million

iCarbonX, the Shenzhen big data/artificial intelligence health company, has formed the  Digital Life Alliance with seven outside companies, which received a total investment of nearly $400 million from the iCarbonX "ecosystem." Six of the seven companies are from outside China. The collaboration is aimed at helping people live more healthy lives by understanding the medical, behavioral and environmental factors that promote health. iCarbonX was founded by former BGI CEO Jun Wang, who wanted to move beyond genomics, integrating separate technologies to identify all the inputs, including genomics, that determine health. The seven companies joining the alliance are: SomaLogic, HealthTell, PatientsLikeMe, AOBiome, GALT, Imagu and Robustnique. More details....
