Beijing's BeiGene reported positive top-line results from a China pivotal Phase II trial of its PD-1 candidate in patients with classical Hodgkin's lymphoma. The drug produced a 73% overall response and 50% complete response in patients with relapsed or refractory forms of the disease. BeiGene plans to use the results to support a China new drug application, which it expects to file later this year. One year ago, BeiGene out-licensed global rights (ex-Asia) for tislelizumab (BGB-A317) to Celgene in a record $1.4 billion deal that included $413 million in upfront payments. More details....

WuXi Biologics will build a $240 million CDMO facility in Shijiazhuang, the capital of China's northern Hebei province. The new facility is an addition to WuXi Biologics' existing CDMO facilities in Shanghai and a $392 million biologics CDMO facility in Ireland, announced last month. WuXi said the Shijiazhuang facility, which will employ 1,000 people, will be operational in 2020. More details....

Shandong Sinobioway Biomedicine Co., Ltd. – a Sinobioway company, decided to build an antibody CMO site located in the Sinobioway biomedical industry park. The new CMO will offer complete manufacturing service, including research labs, 3×500L commercial production, 500L pivot scale, 200L pivot scale, formulation, storage and quality control. By 2023, it is expected to receive $471 million and have 500,000L capacity in the CMO. More details....

Biocytogen of Beijing closed a $65 million series C funding to support its CRO operations. Founded in 2009, the company provides gene engineered animal models, preclinical animal studies and other services that include large-scale animal model supply. It also offers preclinical animal studies using gene humanized models, PDX models and reconstructed human immune system models. Biocytogen works with well-known academic institutions in the US and China, as well as biopharmas' R&D departments. More details....

CMAB Biopharma of Suzhou announced a Series B of $34 million led by CDBI Partners, with C-Bridge Capital, Cormorant, Qianhai FoF Fund and Tigermed participating. The funds will be used to equip a GMP manufacturing facility compliant with China, US, EU and ICH standards. Three months ago, CMAB raised $38 million in a Series A funding led by C-Bridge Capital and BioBAY Park.The facility will contain production, purification and injection filling lines with reactors varying from 50L to 2000L, aiming to provide CDMO services for global clients in Phase I/II trials.
