Shanghai ZhenGe Biotech, a China CDMO, completed a $51 million Series A financing round led by Shanghai-based healthcare investment firm Lyfe Capital. The company will use the proceeds for additional hires and to expand its Shanghai R&D center, build a GMP production base in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone (a production facility for macromolecular drugs, growth media and ADC drugs), and expand its US lab. Shanghai OPM Biosciences raised $14 million from China Life Medical Fund to support its CDMO service platform. The company offers serum-free media for cell cultures based on animal cells, as well as a full-range of cell culture development services. It customizes high-quality personalized animal cell culture media to optimize the cell culture process and reduce production costs. Invetx of Boston, an animal health biologics company, announced a $15 million Series A financing led by Anterra of Boston and joined by two Invetx collaborators, AbCellear and WuXi Biologics. AbCellular is a Vancouver-based company that discovers biotech candidates for partners. WuXi Biologics, a global biologic CDMO based in China, will collaborate with Invetx on development and manufacturing. Invetx plans to apply the breakthroughs of biotechnology to animal health. WuXi Vaccines finalized a $3 billion 20-year agreement with an unspecified "global vaccine leader" to manufacture a vaccine for the company. Last year, WuXi Vaccines, a joint venture comprised of WuXi Biologics and Shanghai Hile Bio-technology, began building a $240 million production facility in Ireland that will provide worldwide supplies of the vaccine. The facility is next to a major facility under construction for WuXi Biologics. WuXi and the unnamed vaccine maker expect the vaccine to produce $3 billion in revenues over 20 years.
