Shanghai WuXi Biologics will acquire a 90% interest in CMAB Biopharma, a CDMO located in Suzhou. CMAB offers services that range from cell-line development, process development to clinical GMP manufacturing. It was backed by CBC Group and other investors including Ming Bioventures.  WuXi and CBC will collaborate to develop and manufacture biologic drugs for CBC portfolio companies. CBC was formerly known as C-Bridge Capital. Yesterday, WuXi Bio announced it would acquire Pfizer's biotech drug manufacturing facility in Hangzhou. More details....

Shanghai's WuXi Biologics, a global CDMO, will acquire a biotech drug manufacturing facility in Hangzhou from Pfizer China. Pfizer completed the facility in 2018 and was using it to manufacture biosimilar drugs. The deal will also include the facility's labor force. WuXi said the acquisition would boost its commercial drug substance (DS) and drug product (DP) capacity, meeting "surging" demand. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2021. Innoforce, a company building a biopharma production facility in Hangzhou, formed a partnership with China-US clinical CRO dMed. The two companies will work together to develop innovative therapeutics from third-parties. Innoforce calls itself a PDMO -- a Partner Development and Manufacturing Organization. The two companies will form partnerships with third-party companies to provide capital, manufacturing and marketing expertise, especially for China-headed biopharma products but also for global markets. WuXi AppTec, a China-global CRO/CMO, paid $135 million to acquire Oxgene, a UK CDMO that develops scaleable gene technologies to develop cell and gene therapies. Previously, WuXi's gene therapy unit licensed Oxgene's novel TESSA technology for adeno-associated viral (AAV) manufacturing and XLenti stable solutions. WuXi found the technology a big improvement over the competition and wanted to invest in Oxgene, but ended up acquiring the entire company. Oxgene will become part of WuXi Advanced Therapies, WuXi's year-old cell and gene therapy Contract Testing, Development and Manufacturing Organization unit. More details....

WuXi Biologics of Shanghai will add more CDMO capacity by spending $183 million to acquire a Bayer facility in Germany. The German facility will be the 16th manufacturing facility for the company. The 30,000-square-meter facility will include three 1,000-liter perfusion reactors and six 2,000-liter fed-batch reactors. WuXi Bio and Bayer also announced a long-term sublease agreement and transition service contract to manufacture Bayer's Kovaltry, a Hemophilia A therapy, in the facility. More details....
