WuXi Biologics Signs Manufacturing Partnership MOU with Prima Biomed

WuXi Biologics, a division of CRO/CMO WuXi AppTec, signed a non-binding MOU to create a manufacturing partnership with Australia's Prima Biomed. The partnership, if finalized, would develop Prima's recombinant soluble LAG-3 protein and other LAG-3 related products as oncology drugs.  WuXi Biologics is already supplying IMP321 to Prima for clinical trials, and the new agreement would make WuXi worldwide supplier of the drug, with the exception of greater China. Eddingpharm has exclusive rights to IMP321 for greater China. More details....

ASLAN Signs up JHL to Provide Process Development for Asthma Treatment

ASLAN Pharma of Singapore engaged JHL Biotech, a Taiwan/China CMO, to provide biologic process development services and clinical trial supplies of ASLAN004. ASLAN004 is a fully human monoclonal antibody that blocks the signaling of the IL-4 and IL-13 receptors. Work will start in 2016 in JHL's GMP-certified facility in Zhubei, Taiwan. ASLAN secured worldwide rights to ASLAN004 from CSL Behring in 2014, originally for asthma, though it is also developing the molecule to treat cancer. More details....

Samsung Biologics Raises $2 Billion in Korean IPO

Samsung Biologics completed a $2 billion IPO in South Korea at an $8 billion valuation. The company, a division of the large Samsung semiconductor conglomerate, has two divisions: a biologics contract manufacturer, and Bioepis, a joint venture with Biogen that makes biosimilar drugs. Samsung Biologics will use the proceeds to complete construction of its third manufacturing facility, a $740 million project, which will give it the biggest capacity of any biologic CMO and is expected to become operational in 2018. FMD K&L Joins with iMEDGlobal in International CRO Merger

FMD K&L, a US-China clinical CRO, announced plans to merge with iMEDGlobal, a US-India pre-clinical CRO. The two companies said their complementary services and geographical focuses, plus operational synergies, would make a stronger company. FMD K&L was also formed by a merger: in 2014, Fountain Medical Development of Beijing combined its China-Southeast Asia clinical operations with K&L, a US company specializing in data management and regulatory submissions. FMD remains the parent while FMD K&L is the subsidiary. More details....

WuXi AppTec Gains China Rights to AutoGenomics' Molecular Diagnostic Platform

WuXi AppTec, China's largest CRO/CMO, announced a strategic collaboration with AutoGenomics, a San Diego-area molecular diagnostic company. WuXi's Laboratory Testing Division will own China rights to manufacture and distribute AutoGenomics' INFINITI® molecular diagnostic systems, a microarray platform with 65 clinical tests currently. WuXi is making a concerted effort to become a major player in China's diagnostic sector, initially as a clinical service provider and now it has added device manufacturer. More details....
