Candid to Develop China-Sourced TCEs for Autoimmune Diseases

Candid Therapeutics broke out of stealth mode today with a plan to develop T Cell engagers (TCEs) to treat autoimmune diseases. Candid believes that a specific subset of immune cells, B lymphocytes, plays a pivotal role in autoimmune diseases. The San Diego startup was created by acquiring two other companies, Vignette Bio and TRC 2004, each of which contributed a B lymphocyte candidate they had in-licensed from a Chinese biotech. The company expects the two candidates offer a “once in a lifetime opportunity” to develop novel therapies for autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and myasthenia gravis.
